WELLINGTON HIDES AND TALLOW SALES.

Levin and Co., Ltd., report on their sale held at Wellington on the 2nd imfc. as follows :•—

We held a sale to-day of hides, tallow, etc. Hides: The «^!e fix**! to take place upon the 11th April was postponed until to-day in consequence of the Conference sitting upon th© 9th and 11th of April for tho purposes of modifying the condition* of th 6 proclamation ga2e*ted on the 6th March, so far as they, relate to tho export of hides and caif-skins. lhe arrangements arrived at, at the conference held upon the above dates yt the invitatiou of the Minister in charge of the Board of Trade, with a view 10 arriving at some more satisfactory system in connection with the embargo'at .present on the export of hides, were that a graduated scale of prices should be fixed for the best hides, which would ran out, at an average price of 13d per lb., and for cow hides 12d per lb., and for grades and qualities not scheduled, including cut and slippy hides, at relative values, the prices being f.o.b. The price for calfskins is to be reviewed in June next, any alteration to come into force on the Ist July. There was the usual attendance of buyers. . We bubmitted a catalogue comprising 590 hides and calfskins, most of which were allocated to tanners at the Government schedule prices. Lots comprising m6stly cow, inferior and kips, not selected by tanners, were disposed of at prices about on a par* with last sale rates. We quote:— Ox heavy, 60ib up, 12* dto 14d; ox medium, 50 to 59, 10&1 to 12fd; ox light, 4(J and under, 9£d to 12* d; cow heavy, 55M> an dover, lid; cow medium 42 to 54, IOJd to I2d: cow ligbftf, under 42, 9Jd to lid; cut, slippy and inferior, 5Jd to lljd ■, bull, stag, 7sd to 9d: yearlings (16ib to 241b). 9d to 14d; calf, superior (up to 161b), 13 5-Bdto 18d; calf, medium to good, 14d to 17|d; calf, damaged, 4d to iftd.

Tallow: Mark«t firm. B«st parcels advanced 2s 6d upon previous sale's rates. In casks, 26s OJ to 82s; in tins, etc., 12s to 28s 6d. Sundries.—Horsehair 5d to 12d: tails, 6d to 9d.

The nest sale will be held on the 23rd inst.' '
