MAHENO A WET SHIP.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 22. The opinion was expressed by men on the hospital ship Maheno, which arrived to-day, that out of the 390 vvotes polled on board in connection with the liquor referendum, not more than 50 wuld favour prohibition.
The count of the votes cast by undischarged soldiers -n New Zealand was commenced yesterday, and the result probably will be announced to-mor-row or Friday. There are believed to he about lO,'ooo of these votes, and it they increase the Continuance majority pll doubt regarding the outcome of the poll .will be at an end. Both parties expect that a majority of the returned men will vote Continuance. There will theri remain to be counted the votes ct several thousand who are on transports bound for New Zealand. The hospital ship Maheno, which reached Auckland yesterday, brings some hundreds of votes.
