A most awkward impasse has aris»*n regarding the Adriatic. President Wilson and the Italians refuse to budge :m inch. Considerable excitement reigns ut Italian headquarters. France and Britain maintain the strict letter of the treaty promising Italy Trieste, Pola, the Istna islands, and pwart of Dalmatia, bub not including Fiume. France and Britain, are prepared to concede Fiume ttnder conditions. President Wilson declares that the treaty does not rjsncern him. He cannot agree to numi^F* °^ ether nationalities coming under sovereignty.
