Public Notices. " MAYORAL ELECTION. 1 INVITE the Burgesses to meet me at the Druids' Hall at 8 o'clock on Wednesday Evening next, the 23rd inst., when I will address them in support of my candidature. ■ MAC _ AY TO THE BURGESSES OF WANGANUI. I AM a candidate for one of the vacancies on the Borough Council. £ consider tlio Borough Council a hu^o Business Concern, and it should be conducted on strictly business Jinfes. Shoui'l you elect me, I will give the requirements of the Borough my best attention find on those grounds I respect(ollaf solicit MUNICIPAL COUNCIL. TO THE ELECTORS OF WANGANUI. T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— I have been requested to stand *fa candidate for your Council. Having already had some experience in Municipal matter.^ I have decided to do so. Henry George named his great work "Progress and Poverty." For my part, for Wanganui I prefer the title, Progress Jind Prosperity. I consider we should have a Greater Wanganui. Gonville and'C&stlecliff should certainly be within the Borough, but on fair terras; and one of those terms should be tne ward system with direct representation for these; and also Aramoho, East Wanganui) and Durietown. I am a believer in preferential voting; I therefore desire no elector to plump for me. Havine been born in your town, I naturally take an interest in it. Intrinsically there may be no great merit attaching to myself for having been so born. I am tolid, on good authority, that most of us have had little say as to whether we were born in* a palace or a manger. With respect to the Loan proposals, I am of bpmion that in ordinary courtesy tho proposals should have 'been recommended by the outgoing Council, and not- placed before the ratepayers for their approval on the eve of an election when, if they were earned, the new Council would have to shoulder the responsibility. Personally, however I iim not prepared to vote against them. I presume the, new Council will not raise" any of these loans,' even if agreed to. by the ratepayers, until/ib has satisfied itself they are for the benefit of the town: If you see fit to return me,- I shall do niy bes"t in your interests.
