When playing in one of the rounds for the men's championship doubles, Mr. Drummond (the leading visiting player nt the tournament) had the misfortune to strain himself internally, which was the means of his having to scratch in a'J matches. Mr Drummoud was in a good position in several events, and no doubt would have carried off some of the prizes. During the afternoon Mr Pownall made a very pleasing presentation to the hon. secretary, Mr A. Lane, for the very efficient manner in which he carried out his duties. Mr Lane, who was taken completely by surprise replied in fitting terms, and thanked the players for their kindly action. Mr Pag© spoke on behalf of the visitors, who said *hey had been treated I'ight well, and complimented the St. John's Club upon their successful tournament. Cheers were given for Mr. Lane and the visitors. The committee also worked well, amongst them being Miss Swan, Mrs. Davies, Mrs Sheldon, Miss Hodge, Mrs. Pearce, Messrs. Billows.
