THE QUEEN OF SONG.

BOLORES IN WANGAKDI.

The place which Mdlle. Antonia Dolores occupies in the hearts of the people of Wanganui was demonstrated jost evening, when an audience which tilled His Majesty's Theatre in ali parts assembled to welcome her on her reappearance after five years' absence. A right royal welcome did the audience extend, the charming songstress being greeted with loud applause when she came on to the stage. This enthusiasm was intensified a* Mdlle. sang song nfter song of hei^pmg programme, and culminated when, in response to insistent applause, she sang "The Marseillaise," and invited the audience to join in "God Save the King." Dolores delighted her audience. Her beautiful voice retains all the charm, tna* has made the singer the idol of musiclovers the world over, tjw-eeter and purer note** could not be imagined, and when to that natural gift is added, perfect artistry, the effect is a revelation. As is Dolores' custom, the programme presented last evening was of a most diversified nature, giving ample opportunity to demonstrate the "beauties of her voice and temperament. The numbers ranged from Verdi's great compositions from the 4th act of "Otello," with the soul-moving "Aye Maria," to lightsome little ballads. One old favourite which particularly appealed to the audience was " Home, Sweef Home," which was sung as only Dolores can sing it. Rtibenstein's "All Fair and Sweet and Holy," a great favourite of other years, was also sung by special request. Altogether, a rare teost «f eong was provided, and that feast was embellished by the artistic accompaniments of Mr Harold Smith, whose piano sotes were also of a high order, both being encored. Owing to Dolore*' engagements, it is feared that she will not be able to pay Wanganui onother visit, but should she do so, she may rely upon a warm receptiou.
