MONTHLY MEETING.

(From Our Travelling Reporter). The Rangitikei County Conucil held its monthly meeting at Mar ton yesterday, ,Mr B. P. Lethbridge (chairman*, presiding; over the following member h: Messrs Robt. Brown, John Brice, R. H Brice, A. G. Simpson, T. A. Dutictin, A. T. Gibbs, Wm. Doole, H O'Callaghan and P. Pedersen. The Auditor-General informed the Council that it had no authority to make the temporary advance of £60 to the Koitiata Domain Board., and rsked that the amount be refunded. —Thp secretary explained^that this vvas boing done, the advance only being of a temporary nature. The letter was leceived.

A circular letter from the Tatiransa Hospital Board was received. 'Pbo circular drew attention to the state nf several Maori pas, some of which were regular hotbeds for disease, and cabing for the effective sanitation of all pas, etc. „ The Waimarino County Counf:ii «!Tot« stating that it is not in favour of any alterations of the present boundary. Cr. Petersen said that Jie iatf>payers in that part of the Waimarino County adjoining the Ruan'ii Riding were dissatisfied with the treatment meted out to them as far as the upkeep of roads was concerned, «md that they were desirous of being merged in the Rangitikei County. The engineer stated that very little roadini.' would have to be done. Cr. Pedersj.i was offered the suggestion that the ratepayers should petition the Waimarino County Council and the Co;1!----raissioner asking for a transfer to the Rangitikei County, and failing this the Council would again consider the meatins. The Council decided to support the recommendations of the Waipa County Council re the building of permanent roads, the general opinion being thao there should be more Government assistance and no Government control.

A. Duthie, on befhalf of himself and. Mrs R. Grower, asked the Council to provide part of the cost of metalliag road to his property at Ohmgaiti. This the Council decided to do. Permission was granted T. V. Mo.*. rin to erect a telephone line between Jaihape and Mangaohane. , J* V. Nettlefold, just ■■'returned from active service, applied for a remission of rates for the period he was away, ■ ▼»., aobut two years. The matter of payment was deferred for another* 12 months. An .amendment that two •; years' rates be remitted was lost by five votes to four. The question of the sewage at Marton Junction Station was again brought up, and the matter was left; in the hands of the chairman and Cr. Brice to go into. ' , In introducing his monthly repoit, the overseer (Mr Thomas) made th<? following remarks: The continued spell of dry weather combined with the large number of sheep being driven over the roads, also a considerable increase of motor traffic owing to race anif show'meetings, have been a very severe test on the metalled roads, nnd even with continued attention they nxe breaking up a little in places. The large amount of sheep traffic at this season of the year is very destructive to the roads.

Cr. P. R. ,H. Brice moved the *ollonrine motions, which were seconded hy Or. Simpson: "That cwing *o the merging of the Wangaehu Road Board District' into this County, thereby necessitating more road supervision, this Council considers the time has arrived for the roftd area of the county to he into three separate oontral arms, each area to be under the snperTtßM»n of three respective inspectors."
