WANTED.—BARMAN MUST BE SOBER. Search the newspapers for th© advertisement : "Wanted a barman, ma.».t be able to take his nip," or "Wanted a, barmaid, drinker preferred." Yet, jjt" liquor ig'such a very good thing for th« customer, why is it not a good thing tor the man or woman behind the bar? Why is it, then, that the hotel-keepur won't have a boozer about the place? Simply because it is, it is—well, it h bad business. Well, if it is biad business for barmen, is it -any better business for the business nwn, or the working man, or the doctor, or nnv kind of a respectable citizen ? Doefin t seem so. If two chaps apply for n job, which would you rather employ, the man who can take or leave it. or the man who has no use for it at all? We'l, then, isn't the publican wise who wan-s his barman sober? Certainly be i«. Everybody is wise who wants everybody sober. The argument is complete. Rescue the publican.and all of u« from our dilemmas. Close the- grog r-ihops. Then everybody will be sober.
