FRUITLESS SEARCH MADE
No trace has been found of Albtn-t Edward Eales, aged 21 years, who \v<i* reported missing on Friday'last- at Koriniti.
In company with his father arid Mr N. Campbell, the missing man tec civ t<i burn some bush. After they had separated young vE.iles started to worktowards the''other Uxo, and on his way along a good vrack lit three fires, 'he la's?<, being about a quarter mile <>€ from where Messrs Campbell and Eales genr,, were waiting. As young Eales' did not turn up the oWiers assuni^c *3iat he had started for Rome, and they were greasy surprised on ' reaching there that he Had not turned up. Search was made for the missing: man on the following three days, and tn Tuesday a search party of abouit- ■ :i: dozen men, including Constable J. MeMullan, commenced a very careful in-: vestigation of "the surrounding area.: The oount.ry is s^eep, with deep gnl-~ lies, and although it wrs most carefully traversed, the "result--was fruitless. A-i one plate the searchers JeV scended into a chasm 200 fe&t- deep. The whole affair is a mysrery. Tireburned area was so thoroughly explpf* ed that even the bodies of severs--young pigs were found, tihe {^pmals evidently being cut off in a gully after tm fire started. It was .thought the miss-; ing man might have taken to the green; bush to avoid the smoke, but there .-"X only a small strip, and on the otherside :there is a clearing. , r Yesterday the futility of further search was recognised, and Constable McMullan returned to Wanganui. <
