Speaking to a delegation from a conference of local authorities of the Union sitting at Capetown to consider the question of the payment of the epidemic expenditure, the Minister of the Interior said that thought the mortality figures were not yet complete, fully il,ooo Europeans and 127,000 coloured people had died of the disease. • The Government would bear four-fifths of the expenditure. The conference, however had decided to adhere to its originar demand for the whole of the expenditure.
