OBITUARY.

We regret to announce the death of Mrs. Cornelius Burnett (nee 'Lily Marion Harris) at her residence, Hawkstone Steet, Wellington N., on Tuesday morning of this" week The deceased lady, who was well known in Wanganui, but of late years mostly resident in Wellington, was born in Manchester sixty-six years ago, and came out with her newly-mar-ried husband in the good ship Haleiotfe, in May 1873, and has been domiciled in New Zealand ever since; though making many trips to the Old Country to see her many relatives and friends. For many years the late Mrs. Burnett, after being long active in church work irf Wanganui, resided, at Oneida farm, on No. 2 Line road, near Fordell, where she was very actively engaged in both Anglican and Presbyterian church work at Matarawa and Fordell, and incidentally at Okoia, and other near parts of the Wanganui Parochial District. This work, for some years she was obliged for most part to give up; but the people of No. 2 Line and neighbourhood will be long before they forget her activity and kindly interest in the spiritual and other welfare of her coun-try-side. Mrs. Burnett was a woman of charming presence, be-: loved by all who came within lier kindly influence, especially the aged and the young, and to the last preserved in her bearing all the gaiety of a child with the poise and astuteness of a woman of the world. The deceased lady leaves five children of her own, and a niece whom she adopted. They are: Joseph A. Burnett, resident in London; Charles H. Burnett, .well-known in Wanganui; Benjamin W. Burnett, a farmer absent with they Expeditionary Forces; and Sidney A. Burnett, member of the firm of Burnett, Mcßeth and Brown, at present in camp. Of the rest, one is Mrs. J. D. W. Mcßeth, and the other Miss Constance H. Burnett. We extend our sincere sympathy to Mr. Burnett and members of his family in their .bereavement.
