CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 19. When a. transport arrived in LyttaL ton to-day there was great disappointment owing to people not being allowed on the wharf by the military authorities. The Mayor of Lyttelton, in a speech, said it was an insult to those who had boys coming home, and an insult to the boys themselves. Eventually the crowd brqke through a rope barricade. The people were quite orderly. - < Further excitement was caused by a soldier falling overboard. He was rescued by a returned soldier—Sergeant Harold'Hurd, D.C.M.
