TREE PLANTING.

THE FARMER'S OPPORTUNITY

The Rev. J. H. Simmonds, of Auckland, has arranged, at the invitation of thij Wellington Provincial Executive or the Fanners' Union, to give a series or

addresses at several oi tho princiijal centres in. the NVauganui, Rangitikei, and Aliinawatu districts on private forestry, or how to grow some of the best conifers, eucalpytus and other trees for shelter, firewood, fencing material, and sawn timber. Mr Simmonds is to deliver his Wanganui address in the Borough Council Chambers at 1.1.30 a.m. to-day, and addresses ai I'eilding, Palmerston, Shannon. Levin, Hunterville, JManga«eka and Taihape will follow. The Rev. Simmonds recently inspected several districts in the "Waiararapa and is furnishing a report on the same. His addresses are most interesting and instructive and much valuable information can be gained by tanners as to the most suitable trees to plant in their respective district*. Mr Simmonds prefers to inspect plantations in a. locality before he gives his addresses, and lie can then speak to the settlers about, the trees they already possess and advise them in respect to others suitable for planting in that particular part of the country. Farmers are urged to take advantage of Mr SimiDond's visit and assist in promoting local forestry as the scarcity of timber for shelter, fencing, etc., is becoming very acute.
