WHAT ARE THE POLICE DOING?
(To the Editor). Sir, —Yesterday's issue of your valuable paper contains an account of some prosecutions at Hamilton for breaches of the licensing law, the charges being for selling liquor to youths under the age of twenty. Does the same law rule or exist in Wanganui?/ I think not, because, if it did. tSen the police in this town would surely be energetic enough to see that the law is obeyed. lam sure every rightthinking person will agree, with me when I say it is nothing but a disgrace to see the large number of youths in a more or less drunken condition. These young fellows get the drink somewhere, either from licensed houses or from " sly grog" sellers, and if the police are worth their salt they ought to be able to discover the culprits. It is only •necessary to make an example of one or two offenders, and the trouble would materially decrease. While on the subject can you tell me Avhy the River Bank, in the vicinity of Dublin St., is such an attractive spot for a few individuals to quench their thirst, particularly on Sunday mornings. The Tramway Urinal at Arantoho seems a good second to the Dublin St. spot. The visitors to either of the above-mention-ed localities, know how how to use a corkscrew and they also know what to do with the bottle.. Trusting this note will have the desired effect of stirring the police into action, and so help io remove an auno\*ng crowd or o'u*day morning drinkers, is the wish of—Yours, etc.,
