The Victoria Cross has been awarded to Skipper Joseph Watt, of the Naval Reserve, who commanded the drifter Gown Lea when she was attacked by Austrian light cruisers. When hailed at 100 yards' range he ordered "full speed ahead," and fought with one gun until the drifter was disabled, but escaped. He removed the dead an^ wounded from the badly-damaged drifter. Many other officers were honoured for gallantry in the same action.
