A SYRIAN RESERVIST

APPEAL DISMISSED

DUNEDTN, Augus*- *•

During the hearing of the appeal of a Syrian before the Military Service Board .to-day, appellant's counsel said that appellant considered that the fact of Syrians fighting for the Allies becoming known in Turkey would lead to the massacre of Syrians in Lebanon, where the relatives of the appellant now resided. He said that the Syrians were loyal people, and strongly favoured the Allies, and thought their misgivings should be respected. The appeal was dismissed, with a recommendation that serious consideration be given to the fact tbat the reservist was a Syrian, and that as a question of policy might be considered as to whether it would be wise to send a member of that race to the front.
