A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that Mr. 14. M. Hackett, night editor of the " New Zealand Herald," has been appointed editor of til at journal. ■
MrW. A. Holmr.n is expected to arrive in New York this week, en route to Washington to confer with American Labour leaders, thence proceeding homeward to New South Wales.
There was a pleasant gathering of a valedictory nature at the Soldiers^"Chlb last night, when a presentation of a suit case was made to the late president, Mr \V. P. Aldridge, and a silver entree dish and a set of fish knives and forks to Mi's Aldridge. The' president (Mr A. Maxwell) referred to the great progress of tlie Club during Mr Aldndge's presidency, and on behalf of the m|tnbers wished the recipients every success in their new sphere of activities at Napier, where Mr Aldridge has been transferee! on promotion in the Postal service.
