DISTINGUISHED NEW ZEALANDERS.
LONDON, August 16. The Distinguished Service Order has been awarded- to the following New Zealanders:—
Colonel R. C. Allen. At a critical moment, ar. great personal risk, he rallied a number of misn of another unit who were withdrawing under a barrage, and prevented a further retirement. Although severely wounded, he continued to give instructions for the continuance of the fight. Major, A. Digby Smith. Although severely wounded and gassed, he led his company to its objective, and remained until the situation was secure. Major R. D. Hardie. Though wounded in the eye, he led his men through a heavy barrage to their positions, and continued with great skill and courage to direct, their gun-fire, and remained throughout the action. Colonel D. J. MoGavin. At great risk he successfully evacuated wounded during our heavy offensive. Captain J. A. Sommerville. He showed fine leadership in the attack and capture of two field guns. Colonel A. Wintervans. He exhibited great coolness and energy in consolidate ing a captured position. A bar to the Military Cross already won by him is awarded to Captain P. G. Parkes for establishing strong posts on his unprotected flank, thus saving advanced waves from being cut off.
