The Bulls electric lighting eeh«m« fta« apparently proved ft great success, and it is a feather in the ea.p of its enterprising townsman, Mr Mausell, that ne undertook tn« gdi©m#, which has proved Buch a great conr«nienc« to tho oommumty. In proportion to itfi si«e, Bulte has shown a more progressive spirit than many larger towns along the West Ooast* The Bulls Town Board will shortly place another gchera© before th« ratepayers for approval, namely, th« erection of Municipal Building^ including th« ro-eweotion of fth« Library aad Readmg-roora and th# oftretcker^s r«sia«n<». fhe loan proposals will ask *he _ratepayers to sanction a loan mi £600, »«d together with the insurance meney from the old bnildmgs will provide a gum of about £1000 for «xpenflitnre in the direction indicated. The total proceeds are to be devoted to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Speaking of patriotic giving hi Lower Bangitikei, nothing better can be recorded along the coast, nor will the area in question play second fiddle to any place in proportion to its population. Already £16,792 Bs. 4dVhas been raised for patriotic purposes, and it is interesting to note that at present the sum of £4500 is standing to the credit of wounded soldiers and their dependents j also £3300 to th # General Fund. Such an achievement surely speaks volumes for the generosity of a great-hearted people, and the activities of the committee in gathering in ,tha harvest of dollar*. . Q? 6 °f *k* .mwt successful concerns m Rangitikei is the Co-op. Dairy Company, which has its headquarters at Bulls. The company's operations have i been attended with great success, and »t will doubtless prove of considerable interest to readers to know that 195 suppliers gathered in something !ik© £30,718 175., and through their com* pany they paid out £820 14s. in wages and salaries. Hitherto the company has been putting all its eggs mto on« basket, namely, butter. The. season^ output of this commodity netted £38,----/7S Os. 7d M and, good as it has been, it is felt that a new policy is required to meet the contingencies of the next season. It has therefore been decided to erect a cheese factory, and shout a week ago the scheme was put in hand. Mr" Maunder, of Palmerston North, i 8 the contractor, and wonderful progress has been made. It is confidently expected that th* factory will b* ready for th« new season's supplier in about five or six weeks' time. Tjie plant is to be paid for out of the surplus, £3000, the directors realising that it would be sound business policy to expend the money in new plan* to meet fufetir* requirements arising out of a shortage of shipping. Shareholders, even without the further distribution of £2000 as a bonus, did remarkably well.
