WELLINGTON, Aug. 15. Ihe Legislative Council resumed this afternoon.
The Hon. Sir Charles Bowen was granted leave for th e remainder of the session, on account of ill-health. The Hon. O. Samuel moved a motion ot sympathy with the Speaker in connection with the death- of his eldest son, Brigadier-General Johnston, killed m France. In doing so he referred to the fact that another son, Captam Octavius Johnston, was killed on tlie bomme; Major Levin, a son-in-law, was killed at Gallipoli, and was survived only a short while by his wife, and now his eldest son had been killed.
The motion was carried. The Regulation of Trade and Commerce Act, 1917, preventing increased charges on tea imported prior to the imposition of the extra, duty, was put through all its stages and passed.
