HOSPITAL BOARD REPRESENTATION.

DIVERSE VIEWS EXPRESSED.

RANGITIKEI COUNTY DIS-

SATISFIED,

At the meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday, letters were received from various Interested local bodies expressing their views on the constitution of the Board.

The Gonville Town Board expressed satisfaction with the present representation.

The Wanganui Borough Council considered they should have the right to appoint two additional members.

A member: And they have four already.

The Wanganui County Council considered the members representing Wanganui Borough should be reduced by one, and one representative should be added to the Waitotara County.

Mr. Hine: That is a more com-mon-sense way of looking at it.

Mr. C. G. Russell stated that the Waitotara County Councicl were In accord with the views of Wanganui County.

The Rangitikei County Council considered their district should have two additional representatives as the present arrangements were most Iniquitable.

Mr. Fletcher said the lower side of the Warigaehu River had more than half the levy, whereas they had six representatives out of fourteen.

The Chairman said the Rangitikei Council had appealed to the Government.

Mr. Fletcher said it was the Board's duty to forward the letters to the proper authorities.

Mr. Joblin: Without any recommendation?

Mr. Fletcher: The recommendations are there.

Mr. Sevnson said Mr. Fletcher was asking that the Board should endorse the recommendatioss, and make representations to the Department. Was the Board satisfied with the present representation, or were more members wanted on it?

Mr. Joblin: We want a more equitable adjustment.

Mr. Svenson considered the whole matter should be gone into very carefully. They should find out the proper basis of representation— population or capital value—and apportion it out accordingly.

Tlie chairman: It is a knotty problem. It was a matter for the various districts.

It was decided to forward the various letters to the Minister without, any con.ment.
