NASTY MOTOR ACCIDENT,

AN INTERESTING JUDGMENT

A branch of the Workers' Educational Association .has been formed at Feilding.

Feilding Chamber of Commerce has adopted, a motion favourable to the formation of a -River Board, proposed in consequence of river erosion.

Mrs. Shalders of Feilding has received word that, her eldest son, Private Ryder Stewart, who left with the 22nd Reinforcements, has been wounded in France.

Private Roy Richardson, killed in action on August Ist was a clerk in the office of Mr. J. Power, Feilding, when he enlisted.

Mr. J. Baird, secretary of the Cheltenham Dairy Co", was taken suddenly ill to-day and was ordered to Palmerston North Hospital for treatment.

Lambs are coming in freely, and the percentage is expected to be better than last year. With careful snepherding there should be good results.

Mr J. D. Roulston, headmaster of Hunterville District High School, is shortly going into camp. He is being replaced by Mr. Malcolm.

The Second Division League is making .satisfactory progress at Marton. Over 90 enrolments have already been made, and it is expected that within the next coupie of weeks the number will reach 200.

A nasty motor accident occurred near Taihape, and might easily have Been attended by very serious consequences. It appears that as Mr. E. Gilbert of Pukeokahu, was motoring to the township with four passengers, the car skidded at a narrow portion of the road, and fell some 200 feet into the gorge below. Fortunately the occupants were tnrown clear of the car at the first somersault, with the exception of a little girl who sustained a broken leg. . Mr. Hewitt, S.M., gave judgment at Marton Court yesterday in tne case of Batchelar and Humphrey v. Robert Allen, awarding plaintiffs £164 ss, with costs amounting to £23 16s 3d. His Worship in giving judgment, gave the following reasons for his decision: (1) the height of the piles above the ground were placed with the approval of defendant; (2) the stud and floor joists were not quite in accordance with specifications, but this was not a material point; (3) the plaintiffs were not allowed by defendant to remedy defects in the kitchen; (4) with the exception of minor defects, the contract was substantially performed and completed. The Court costs were £4 75.; witnesses' expenses £10 5s and solicitor's fee £9 4s 3d.

At a -meeting of the executive committee of the Taihape Women's Working Club, it was decided that Dustin's, Ltd., Wanganui, tender for the supply of Christmas puddings and cakes be accepted, and that 300 of each be purchased.

The Rev. A. Millar, M.A., of Edeadale Church, Auckland, has received a call to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Westport.
