CUPID'S LITTLE WAYS.

(Extract. from a Letter written by Corporal X. at Salonika.)

We ibecome astonishingly frank in our revealings of the most intimate home matters, especially those relating to affairs of the heart. This is curious, but probably a natural consequence of active service conditions. For example, there is one Jones, a private in my platoon. The other" day Jones received a .photograph of his sweetheart.

He showed it round to everybody, which was not unusual; we all do that.. But lie went further. He asked us to guess the lady's age. And he proposed and arranged a sweepstake in the matter. In the result there were two 33's, one 32, three 30's, one 29, four 28's, seven 27's one 26, one 25 (Co. S.M.), four 23's, three 22's, two 21's, three 19's, and an 18 (Platoon Sergeant).

The girl was 21. As a matter of fact, he had sent the photograph to this devoted swain to mark the attainment of her majority. Prize divided.

But the extraordinary business was that Jones wrote and told her all about it, in detail, giving her the actual i.gures a,s recorded above. It is SO difficult to know how to fill up one's letters and not annoy the Censor!
