FLANDERS WRAPPED IN SMOKE.
AWFUL CEASELSS CONTEST.
VERDUN AND THE SOMME OUT=
DONE.
LONDON, August 13
The whole line in Flanders is wrapped in smoke from British and German shells. The communiques give a very vague impression of the awful and ceaseless contest. The artillery concentrations far outweigh Verdun and Somme, and the numbers of troops are the greatest gathered 0:1 any battlefield. The enemy's artillery tortures the army, but our big guns are doing infinitely more execution.
