MELBOURNE, August 11. The Hon. W. M. Hughes stated that the shipbuilding scheme was hung up indefinitely. ,
In the House of Representatives, the Minister of Customs announced increases in import duty of 3s per gallon in spirits and a similar excise duty on beer, and the excise duty is to be increased a penny per gallon. . It is estimated that the revenue from these sources will amount to £600,000, and will cover the loss of revenue caused by the prohibition of luxuries.
