MR. MASSEY.

IiONOtRED BY LONDONDERRY.

A WISE SPEECH.

Received November 28, 9.50 p.m LONDON, November 27.

Mr. Massey, at Londonderry, received the freedom of the city. Speaking at a subsequent luncheon at the Guildhall, Mr. Massey uttered a strong warning against allowing the peace party., now an insignificant minority, to become any stronger. New Zealand was going to be the centre of an important island confederation in the Pacific. It was now taking vigorous steps to eliminate enemy trade. He was sorry to think some of the leading British statesmen were not more enthusiastic in promoting closer Empire union. A commencement could be made now. Above all, there must never be the party question. If so, he feared the outlook would not be very good.

Received November 28, 10.30 p.m LONDON, November 28.

Mr. Massey -was luncheoned at Limvady (his birthday). Replying to an address. h«> said it was the duty of all parts of the Empire to continue to send reinforcements. He strongly approved of the peace terms containing the replacement of sunken shipping ton for ton.
