HUMAN SKELETON
A MANAWATU MYSTERY CLEARED UP.

PALMERSTON N., Oct. 13. While engaged levelling a stumped paddock at -lackeytown this morning, Thos. Morgan, an .emplojea of Mr. A. J. Gallichan. unearthed a humatt'skeleton aJong with an old revolver. The only me&ns of identiiication was the discovery of a silver "card case bearing the insci-iption "John Cole, Palmerston North, New Zealand." The case is in good condition. According to the Police Gazette of' 1898, a man named John Cole, 84 years of age, a dentist at Paimerston, •was reported missing. The remains are believed to be those of the missing man. Colo was a native of Engtard, The Gazette states that Cole was reported to have purchased a revolver. The only clue was the subsequent tinding of his clothes on the bank of the Manawatu River, near Jackeytown. The police are making inquiries.
