THE CENSUS

ARRANGEMENTS FOR TO-MOR-

ROW NIGHT

Preparations for the taking of the census as far the night of Occtober 15----16 are complete; and every possible precaution has been taken to facilitate© thegaccurate filling up of the schedules. "R|ad carefully the instructions" is the* advice given to householders and others who are under an obligation to write correct replies to questions.

A householders' schedule has to be filled up by the occupier or person in charge of each dwelling with particulars respecting ali the persons who pass the night of Sunday, October 15, on the premises. This schedule is also to include persons traveling or out at work during the night of the loth (not included in any other schedule), who return to the dwelling on October 16.

If the house is occupied by different families in separate storeys or apartments, each division must be treated as a separate dwelling, of which, the occupier or person in charge must make a return upon a separate schedule. The sub-enumerator is also required to fill in a schedule for each, uninhabited dwelling in his district.

In the case of large pastoral stations or otbor similar establishments, the proprietor or manager is to fill in a schedule in regard to the homestead, but an additional separate schedule must also b.e filled in for each of the out-stations, dwelling houses ,or huts in which a distinct family or persons reside.

For the convenience of inmates of hotels, boarding-houses, clubs, ships, trains, etc., and to preserve as far as possible tlie confidential nature of the particulars supplied, a "personal schedule" is provided for each individual. The person in charge of these establishments, ships, and trains is under an obligation to distribute the personal schedule, and to take care to have them filled up correctly. In the case of small hotels and other accommodation houses with only one or two boarders, the ordinai'y householder's schedule is to be used. The personal schedule is also to be used for inmates of military and internment camps, and on this schedule a special inquiry is made as to the place of residence prior to enlistment, etc, so that inmates of such camps may, if necessary, be allocated to the districts to which they belong.
