IN connection with the War Regulations issued on 24th July last, it is of r.ho utmost importance to importers that the foil owing procedure shrould be adopted with respect to the importation of goods from firms in foreign countries other than the United State,s. . This will not be necessary with respect to goods shipped before the 24th October 1916,. provided that such goods were ordered prior to the 24th July, 1916. (a). A license to import from each ' such firm must be obtained from the Comptroller of Customs before goods are ordered. (b). Applications for licenses, giving the names and addresses of all such firms, should be promptly submitted to the Comptroller of Customs, stating in each case . whether .similar goods were imported from such.firms before the war. (c). Where a New Zealand .importer - ; has got into touch with a. new firm subsequent to the outbreak of Avar, he should state how he camo to/ communicate with that firm, and should ;submit any relative papers. NOTE.—Where goods are bought in foreign countries .throusfn an agent in London or elsewhere, for transmission on ;i through bill of lading or ,by direct transhipment, and the New Zealand merchant does not at present know the names of the foreign suppliers,, it w'li bo necessary that these should be obtained.
