'An adaptation of Charles Dickens' famous novel "Martin Chuzzlewit" figures as the chief film in the new programme at the King's Pictures this evening, which tells of Martin, who is disinherited by his grandfather for engaging himself to Mary Graham without the grandfather's consent. He is spurned by his uncle Anthony, his cousin Jonas, and the rest of the avaricious family. Mark Tapley, sweetheart of the widow Lupin, who keeps the Blue Dragon Inn, induces young Martin to go with him to America to make their fortunes. Seth Pecksniff curries favour wih old Martin, and Jonas, believing that the former will inherit the evstate, strikes a bargain to marry Seth's daughter Mercy. Anthony Chuzzlewit's health is bad, but he doe's not die soon enough to suit "Jonas, and the latter poisons him. How the crime is fastened upon Jonas, and how young Martin came back from America to win his grandfather's favour and the hand of Mary Graham, are the closing scenes of this absorbing drama, magnificently presented by the Biograph. Players. Other items on the programme are of first-class merit.
