GONVILLE TOWN BOARD

THE CHAIRMAN'S ANNUAL

REPORT

At the meeting of the Gqnville Town Board last night the chairman (Mr. A. G. Bignell) presented the following annual report:—

The year ending March 31st. 1915. has been marked by substantial improvements in the town and district, largely owing to the various works being undertaken as authorised in the £25,000 Loan Schedule of 1913. Of the above amount, the sum of £12,427 has been expended to date, leaving a balance of £12,572 still unexpended: while at the same time," the larger and heavier portion of the works authoris' ed have been completed. The amount raised on loan has been by sale of debentures, bearing interest at 5 pelcent. These have been sold at a co.^t of one third per cent, ror commission and exchange. Satisfactory arrangements have been made with the Board's bankers (Bank New Zealand) to provide sufficient funds against sale of further debentures, to continue the schedule of works as authorised by the Board during the coming year. The engineering charges on loan expenditure amount to one and two-thirds per cent. All other office and salary amounts have been charged to General Account. Following are the. particulars of expendittire to date;-^ Sewers and drainage £5,530 Streets, footpaths, purchase ot ! lands, etc ..%>... 5,682 Water reticulation .-4^-. ' ka i Reserve (costs only) ... .50 £12,427 Of the above sum expended some £5000 has been paid in wages. Sewers and drains. —The present installation totals nine miles of mams, and serves practically all the occupied portion of the district, wlula ample provision has been made lor future additional connections. Water reticulation and supply.—Jp present mains now total 10£ miles—die consumption for the year being 7,093,----000 gallons, making a daily consumption of 19,433 gallons, equal to <i gallons per hsad per day—at o cost 01 £354 13s. at Is. per 1000 gallons ?jaid to Wanganui Borough.
