THE CORA MINNETT CASE.

COMMENTS BY THE JUDGE.

■ United Tresa Association.— Copynpnt.). - . ■•;!■• 'LONDON, April 7:

Sir AViilliam Plickford, giving judgment for the full amount claimed by the Commercial Bank of Australia against Cora Minnett, iand for £543 against Cpwell, said she seemed to be a lady of considerable ability and vaxied pursuits1. He did not think the circumstances under which she received the money were colourless. A bank cashier was not usually a man of large means, and he could not help thinking Minnett carried out her transactions in a way calculated' to make it more difficult for the bank to trace the money.

In. the King's Bench Division of the High Court, the Commercial Bank of Australia sued Cora Minnett, alias Bellew Hawker, and Herbert Cowell, alias perberfb. Hawker;, ttjo jrecovjer £2600, which it was alleged one Robson, formerly a cashier in the London branch ,of the bank, wrongfully delivered to the defendants. Robson was recently

sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment

for appropriating £7000. Cowell, in ""giving evidence, stated that he was tan actor, and met Cora Minnett in Melbourne in 1907, where he acted as her secretary receiving £7 .per week. He believed Robson. to' be well off, and knew "that he was interested with Minnett in 1 a company to encourage Australian emij gration.
