Keceived March 22, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, March 22. A terrific deluge occurred on Friday sight and caused many thousands of pounds' worth of damage. One death was caused. .The rain was the fiercest experienced for thirty-six years. Seventy points.- foil in 4J minutes. Streets' were turned into rushing torrents. Water invaded shops and houses.. Thirty trams were derailed, in different parts of the city and suburbs.
The ancient aboriginal burying ground at Manly was unearthed,' bones and. skulls being exposed.
A man named Knight was driving home at Parramatta when the storm water washed the horse into a creek, Knight being drowned.
Steady rain has been almost continuous since the storm
