BLACKBERRIES PEST
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "Chronicle.") WELLINGTON, Dec. 15. The appearance of an item of £953 in connection with the Tongoio estate (Ha-wke's Bay) on the Supplementary Estimates elicited a question in the House this afternoon.
The Prime Minister explained that tho sum was for tho clearing of blackberries, and stated that it was calculated that a similar veto would1 have to he made each year for three years, at the end of which time it was considered that the settlers would be able to undertake tho work themselves.
