CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL

At Mt. St. Joseph yesterday a delightful display of work was made by the pupils of the Convent High. School. The display was a splendid one, ami! greatly redounds to the credit of those who were responsible for it. There were many visitors during the afternoon.

Entering the main class-room to th© right of the fine school corridor, one finds a tastefully aranged "scene." " Variety is ©harm," and it is certainly found here. To the lovers of art needlework a very pleasant hour may be spent, while those who like painting, drawing, mount mellick work, embroidery, dressmaking, pen painting, pastel, etc., will find rmuch to admire. The plain sewing .forms a very pleasing feature of the exhibition and almost every pupil is responsible for a. fine exhibit. In the art needlework two young ladies are well to the front: Misses Eileen Brennan nnd Grace Brownlie .The former shows four very pretty cushions : the latter avery neat table-centre- and two cushions. We understand that both young ladies have been, " rivals" in working for the first prize. As the prize-list is not yet in print we are unable to name the happy winner. Misses Adele Richardson, Clare Brownlie, Kathleen Delahunty, 0. Nixon, Ella Rhodes, Gertrude Neylon, Ellen Punch, May Rhodes, Clare GeUatly, Madge Bremer, Bessie Calver and Mavis ■Gam all show very dainty work in thie shape of eusJiic-ns, table-teentres, ©to. Misses Adele Richardson, Gertrude Neylon, Laura Brosnahan. and Mavis 'o.irn •deserve suecial mention. Their beauty of finish is specially remarked. Misses Eileen O'Brien, Norma Limbrick, Rita Dennis, Beatrice Bal'mond, Minnie Johnstone, Hilda Rogers, Maud Fitzwater, and Jessie Dunlop show daintily finished designs in great variety. In mount mellick work Misses Clare t ßrwvn>lie, Florrie MceFaiiane., and Louie Cassie are well in advance] it is evident that effort and patience have been rewarded. In plain sewing there is a fine display: Miss Clare 'Gellatly shows two smart blouses, one of a-adianta beautifully tacked, the other a plain shirt blouse of tussore silk. Miss Gertrude JSeylon is responsible for a very pretty white Gilk blouse and a. dainty camisole. Misses flVLay Rhodes, Louie Cassie, Jessie Dunlop an'l Madge Bremer show very neatly executed work. Amongst the juniors, Miss Laura Brosnaban deserves special mention ; her white silk blouse and pretty camisole fwe a credit to her, while Misses Mary Piper. Florrie McFarlane, Ella Rhodes, Gertie CuHinane, Maud McCormack, Mary Sullivan, Olive Nixon, all show very pretty exhibits. A I special feature of this department is tli© several dainty frocks on exhibition. Tho paintings, drawings in black and white, pastel, etc.. arc many and well finished. Miss Mavis Oarn p;ives evidence of talent in her study of_ horses' needs, and two small studies in black nnd' white, Solitude and Moonlight Scene. Miss Mary McCartin shows pretty scenes, while Miss Gertrude Neylon has a very pretty forest scene and also a country scene. (Miss 'Clare-Brownlie shows two fine panel designs and n pretty study. Misses May Rhodes, Ktahleei Delahunty, Clara- Geilatly, Madge Bremer, Clare Brownlie and Grace Brownlie have some very pretty pastels. It is impossible to mention every pupil's work in detail as spa,ce will not allow. We heartily congratulate the Sisters ia!nd pupils on. the splendid exhibition.
