AT DUNEDIN

DUNEDIN, Dec. 12. There are now about 230 men at work on the wharves. The Kittawa completed the discharge of six hundred tons of sugar this afternoon, and after taking six hundred tons of cargo, will sail to-morrow afternoon for the north. The Wanaka. completed discharge today, and when the Kifctawa leaves she will take in fifteen or sixteen hundred tons of general cargo for Bluff and northern norte. The Marere has completed unloading, and will leave for Newcastle to-morrow.

Free labour started at Port Chalmers this morning to deal with flax and other material which has accumulated and caused congestion. The foreman said at noon that the fresh hands had done ono hundred per cent better than was anticipated. More men were wanted, and no difficulty was anticipated in getting them. The- usual "activity would soon bo restored.
