WANGANUI RIVER TRUST.

A meeting of the Wanganui River Trust was held on Thursday. Present, Messrs T. D. Cummins (chairman), T. B. Williams, W. G. Bassett, J. H, Burnet and Alfred Burnett. Apologies were received from Messrs Yeitch and Polson. Tho Chairman reported on works in progress at Tarepokiore, where the Trust is engaged in widening the steamer channel to permit of the passage of larger boats capable of dealing with the -increasing traffic. The work, although only partially completed, has nrrved beneficial. .

Messrs Hatrick and Co.. yriting under date 20th October, .said: "Your Board will-be pleased to know.; that %h& " Wakapai" came through Pokiore-on Saturday in a fair flood—s feet over tho mark at Pipiriki, Jn still water, so tho dangerous whirlpool and rip have, at this water, disappeared." This is very satisfactory as the work is still in an unfinished condition, arcl when completed will 'undoubtedly make, chat was previously r». Arrangements have been made for constructing a crossing at the head of tho island at Taumarunui which will be of much service to the Trust tenants i'< saving some six miles of cartage. Tho timb'ar and iron for the wharves or landings at Retaruke and "Wade's" u'o now at the various, sites and tho construction.will" be put in hand, so that they will be available during the coming wool season. A site for a !a:idttia at Otiiiti w;as also inspected, and this will be taken in hand if possible this working season. Captain Marshall, the Trust's foreman, reported accidents to two of the employees, WeMsmore and Anderson. These, however, are covered by insurance under the Employers' Liability Act in the Ocean Accident Insurance Company and the necessary claims have been made. x.
