ART UNION.

The various prizes for the tabove art union were on view in Messrs Dnaffin and Company's shop window on Saturday evening last, and created a great deal of attention. The prizes are a valuable lot, and the committee must be congratulated on the excellent choice made by them. The first, second, and third prizes tare valuable oil paintings, and are well worth the attention paid them. Mr George Jensen will present a handsome carved sideboard to the winner of the first prize, and Messrs J. Trussell and J. P. MeG-rath c cheval pair and inlaid table to the winners of the second and the third prizes respectively. The committee owes a debt of gratitude to these gentlemen fortheir handsome donations, which will no doubt tend to make the art union a huge success. The carving on the above mentioned furniture was executed by Mr W. Andrews, of Wanganui and is quite up to his usual artistic style. The Garrison Band rendered a choice programme of selections in th© garage during the evening, and were heard to good advantage.
