Mr. W. Kerr, S.M., was kept busy at the "Magistrate's Court yesterday morning hearing a batch of charges of •alleged breaches of the Defence Act by "Territorials and Senior Cadets. The first case was that against Harold Daniel Cudby, who was fined £1 and 7s. costs, it being mentioned in the course of the case tbat defendant had only once attended narade since June .1.

R. J. Lambess, who was previously fined about £4 for breaches 01 the Act, and whose case was remanded from last -week, to allow of a certificate being procured, was next called. The certificate stated that defendant was fit to serve, and he therefore pleaded guilty to the offence of not attending a parade. The Magistrate, in inflicting a further fine of £4, stated that he hp.a power to send the defendant to undergo a term of military detention, and if the fine was not paid Lambess would be sent to Wellington for a term of four weeks.

The case of S. R. Armstrong was next ■called, and this Mr. Kerr termed "a very vexations one indeed." A youth named Waterhonse who had "been attending the drills of the Railway Corps regularly, and whose name had not been marked off the Senior Cadet roll, was next called, and as the Defence authorities had made a mistake im prosecuting they withdrew the in formation. .. . An information against A. F. Dustin was irregularly drawn out, and was also withdraws. H. D. Hood pleaded euilty to bejng absent on July 24. The prosecution stated that the defendant had not been present at parade since June 1. A fine of 103. and costs was inflicted.
