SHIPPING TRAFFIC SERIOUSLY AFFECTED.
DUNEDIN, July 15. Inquiry at the Union Company's office to-day elicited the statement that th© shrinkage in the, passenger traffic between New Zealand and the Commonwealth is so great on account of the smallpox, quarantine disabilities, etc.'. that if the falling off oontinues it is possible that smaller sfcoamers will be placed on the routes affected. The cost of running laxge steamers is very great, and the re-arrangement of the inter-colonial service may become necessary.
