SECOND MAIN TRUNK EXPRESS.
PROTEST AGAINST WITH-fe
DRAWAL
(By Telegraph.) (From Our Special Representative.)
WELLINGTON, July 15. Tho withdrawal of the^ second express from the Main Trunk railway service was referred to by Mr. Marnier in hia speech to-night. He said that ho thought that the Government did not tako up an exactly fair position in regard to the matter. It was hardly Pair that tho South Island should have two expresses whilst the North Island had only one.
Mander: They do not pay.
Mr. Witty: Yes, they do. Mr. Mander: The North Island lines pay much better than those in the South Island. He thought that it would have been better if the Government had given each Island a second express three days a week. The North Island railways paid much better than thoso in tho South, and if they -were not entitled to more consideration they wero entitled to at least as much.
The Prime Minister stated that it was tho intention of the Government to put the second express on again not later than October 31st. He hoped that it would bo patronised better than on the last occasion.
