TRAINER v. BOOKMAKER.
A SLANDER CASE.
LONDON, April 29
James Patrick Hayes, a trainer, has sued George William Smith, a bookmaker, of Leeds, for slander in calling the plaintiff a blackmailer. Hayes' counsel admitted that his client had been warned off the course in Tasmania, but was subsequently reinstated. Smith employed Hayes as a trainer, and they quarrelled. A verdict wa3 given for the defendant, while Smith obtained £5 damages on a countercharge.
