STATEMENT BY CHAIRMAN OF COLLEGE TRUSTEES.

In connection with the Sunday foothall incident, we are informed by Mr. A. G. Bignell. Chairman of the Collegiate School Trustees, that the land.on -which the game was played is what was tho old cricket ground. It is now, says Mr. Bignell, temporarily leased to the N.Z. Express Co. for grazing purposes. Tho trustees were, he >ays, greatly annoyed to learn what had been going on. and made prompt inquiries of their tenant concerning the matter. They learned that the officers of the Express Company had not given authority -to ■anyone to go on the land. A few weeks aero one of the Company's valuable horses was found to be seriously injured, and it is . considered that the injury was occasioned as the Tesult of tho animal having boen frightened by the. noise made .by trespassers while using the grazing grcfund as a playing field.
