OUR WEEKLY SUMMARY

Tho acceptances received for tl'R Auckland Cup must 'be accounted very satisfactory, and a perusal of the iisfc shows that all the Dominion'. 1* br-ftt performers over a distance of ground are engaged in the event. Nothing of note has dropped out, and that proble.n of selecting the winner appears i>o easier now than when the weights were issued. Goldfinder and Los Ang-Mr-; remain at the head of the list, and !»ot"i horses have admirers, the prospects at Goldfinder being held in most respects middling.

Midnight Sun is reported to be doing well,-and one morning last-week it is said ho 'boat both Goldftnder arid Chedrt n; in a gallop. Masterpiece, who is now one of the favourites, will shortly be on tho scene of action. He is a biff horse, and the impression is that the right handed going at Ellerslie will not suit him. However it must be remembered that at the summer meeting at 'Ellerslio last year ho ran second to Electrakoff in tho Grandstand Handican, tho mile and a quarter being covered in 2 mins. 7' 3-5 sees. Royal Soult and Antoinette are also engaged in the Railway Handicap, but Royal Soult will run in tho Cup, while Antoinette will start in tho short race. Royal Soult is far from being a, sound horse, but so far he is standing up to his -work well, and on Thursday morning ho Tan a good gallop with Santa Rosa. Howover the tan "was the track used. The withdrawal of Bon Reve in favour of his stablemato .Bon Ton, has had the effect, of promoting the colt to the position of favourite. Undoubtedly a good eolt, he is set a stiff task to concede age and weight to several good horses. Only five have accepted under 7.0, but all are winners of races, hut it is unlikely that the Cap winner is one of

them. A final payment for that event is due n Friday, December 20th. The supporters of Waimangu for the Auckland Cup will not be pleased to hear that the son of Soult is causing his trainer some 'anxiety at present. After galloping 'with Santa Rosa on Tuesday morning, he walked away sore, and was quickly taken home to the station. He was -an absentee from < the tracks on Thursday, and from this it may bo inferred that all is not well with Waimangu. When the weights first appeared he was installed favourite, and should he fail to see tho post on Boxing Day much good gold will be lost..

[ It. O'Donnell, with Culprit, Bon l Rave, Bon Ton, Los Angelos, and OxJ enhope, is expected to leave Christchurch for Ellerslie early next week. Bon Revo is engaged in the Palmerston North Stakes, and he may be a runner in that event, as he would have ample time to go on to Auckland for the G.N. Derby on January Ist. R. J. Mason will not 'be represented at the Auckland meeting, which will be the first occasion for some years that the famous trainer has not been represented at a Cup gathering in Auckland. It is anticipated that the next New Zealand Trotting Cup will be worth 1500 sovs. The C.J.C. Metropolitan Trotting Club intend offering 'breeders of light harness horses every inducement to breed only from the best blood. It now transpires that F. E. Jones, lately associated with Sir Geo. Clifford's horses, will ride. Vice-Admiral in the Auckland Cup, and not F. D. Jones. H. Mclntosh, the light weight apprentice to O. Pritchard's stable, who met with an accident through Biddv falling with him at the Marlborough meeting, died on Friday. The body was brought to Wellington, and buried at the Lower Hutt on the following afternoon. The cortege 'was a large one, many riders, owners, and trainers being present. Much sympathy is felt for tho lad's relatives in their sad •bereavement.

The hurdle racer Master Paul. at present enjoying a spell at Riccarton, •will proba'bly be sent to Australia in the autumn, and raced in steeplechases.

Tho following will most likelv be some of the riders in the Auckland Cun: —Go&dfinder (Whittaker), Midnight Sun (L. Wilson), Vioe-Admiral (F. Ej Jones), Domino (O'Shea), BobrikofF (F-; D. Jones), Masterpiece (C. Emerson), Royal Soult (R. E. Brown); Santa Rosa (0. Brown), Bon Ton (B. Deeley), Waimangu- (J. Buchanan), Monoplane (L. Morris), Monorail (W. Percival), Semolina (J, Trigger). Tangiwai, a great Railway Handicap fancy, was easily beaten over five furlongs by Devastation on Thursday. The final payment for the Palmerstoti North Stakes falls due on Tuesday, 17th inst.

_ Evidently the "cable, man" on a North Auckland paper knows verv little of racing, and the following is the wa? he published the departure of the racehorses Monoplane and Don Quex, for New Zealand :-—

MONOPLANE FOR. NEW ZEALAND THE WIMMERA IS BRINGING IT

By the steamer Wimmera, leaving Sydney to-day, the monoplane, Don Quex; is ib'eing shipped to New Zealand.
