UNIQUE HOLIDAY EVENT

Wood-chopping is probably the most exciting of all outdoor sports, and the leading carnivals held in Australia and ;New Zealand invariably attract large crowds. Though one or two axemen's events have occasionally figured on the programmes of sports gatherings held here, the oarniyal to be held on Monday, the 80th inst., will ;be easily the l>sst of its kind which the public of" Wanganui have had the opportunity of attending. The recently formed Wanganui Axemen's Association offered verv liberal prize-money, and as a result have drawn record entries, including many of the finest axemen in the Dominion It will be a rare treat to see such cracks as the Shewry Bros., C O'Rourke, S. Johnson, J. O. Sullivan! the Pretty Bros., and <T Casey, not to mention, other top-notchere, competing, and it goes without saying that tremendous interest will he taken in thevarious axemen's contests. The sawing and cycling events should also be tull of interest, as the competitors will include some of the hest men in bothIslands.
