PERSONAL.
Mr. P". J. Carman, who has retired on superannuation from the Inspection of Macliinery Department, and who for several years has been Inspector of Machinery in Christchureh, was yesterday the recipient of presentations on behalf of local users of steam, and on .behalf of his fellow officers in the Department. Captain Mareiel presented Mr. Carman with a lounge chair and a purse of sovereigns, on behalf of the users of steam and Mr. R. Duncan on behalf of the captain's fellow officers in the Department, presented him with a. gold watch suitably inscribed, and* for Mrs. Carman a jewel case. Eulogistic references to the tactful manner in which Mr. Carman had discharged his duties were made by Captain Marciel, Mr. John Anderson, and others.
