KEEN BIDDING AND BIG PRICES

The second wool sale.of this season's series was held to-day in the presence of a. large attendance of buyers representing Home, Contine^nal, American and local sections of tne trade. There were 17,691 bales catalogued, as compared with 16.082 bales at the corresponding sale of last year. The wool was in excellent condition, nnd a much better selection was offered than at the November sale, there being a Inr^e numbed- of the Jbest halfbrfed dins grown in the province anjone those submitted. Bidding was exceptionally keen, though it was not as general as at the recent Wellington sale. • Th e principal buyers were the American operators and the representatives of woollen mills, well as local speculators. The American representatives ibid very strongly, and there was more (business done on account of the Continent than Bradford. Prices all i-»qha' were firmer than at the November sale, but the higher T.ange was ma.lnly" to be a/c----counted for by. the better quality of thn offerings. Taking, prices on the average, they were the highest recorded at a New Zealand sale. The bulk of fleece wool sold at a range of 9d. to 13^d., and a £ew special clips went higher, the top 'being reached '% the Pahau Pastures and 'F.C over three stars," half-bred, which touched 14$, the next highest being "W.W " 14^d "'Bel! over Coklstre^r. Patiti." %' "N.Z. over three legs"'l4d. There was very little'merino wool catalogued, and the top price was 13d. Several lotg of Corriedale reached 13|d.
