FIRST DAY.

BONNIE BOY WINS THE CUP

, {From- Our Special Reporter.)

The Rangitikei Racing Club holds an ■ (unique record, inasmuch as it is the only club in New Zealand which has been reinstated sis far as its use of the totalisator is concerned. 'After such 'had 'been dealt with by the Racing .Commission some little time ago, the decision of the Minister <tf Internal Affairs in giving Bulls two days' racing per annum as against four in the old days, avnd none as decided by the Racing Conference, *was clearly stated to be made entirely on its merits, as it was gener--ally conceded that'the Rangitikei Racing Club had <been harshly and unfairly treated—seeing that- it was one of the oldest clubs in New Zealand—racing being conducted at Bulls for over, fifty years in a maimer v reflecting great ■credit to all cbncerend, in-its manage- - snent, and the iwo meetings per. year held at Bulls deservedly popular, which enabled the glub to go in for -a freehold property (adjoining the township), which, makes an fdeal course; Formerly the most succeeful. races held j Jat Bulls were at the Summer meeting held on New Year's and following days. Unfortunately these ; .days, for the present season were allo"3afeqt to the Marion Jockey Club, and were not avail- , able for Bulls. However, the days finally yesterday "and torday/ must have <been fairly, satisfactory to patrons, judging by "the attendance at JBuJls yesterday, and must have also i>een entirely satisfactory %o . the ; officials of the dub and an evidence that iwd days' racing a£ Bulls ; w-ere; fully tsvarranted by a populous j and progressive district- Tile qlub-on its.part has j |been_ more than in having all ■■ appointments on the course fully up-! -to^date, goins- so far jj,s to instal tlio ' silent totalisator. giving every facility an dealing smartly and" surely "with any sums offering by-fehose desiring to specu- ► late. Horse owners fully supported Hie -club, and^ remembering old and pleasassociations, the nominatiSns and acceptances were beyond anticipations, and there was no doubt of the quality of the racing. Tne~b!ay was simply per- ' feet—a clear, bright sun,,theTieat being ' tempered by a cool breeze from the Hangitikei River. The racing throughout was of a hio-h order, and some of the fields were exceedingly large. Praise i s due for this to Messrs. Geo. 'Morse (handicappeT) and R. H. Skipwith (starter), for the good" iwork done in their respective departments. Mr. H. A. Goodall, as secret tary, was the right man in the right place. During the day the Bulls Band, under Conductor Hinkley, rendered a •choice programme of music; which was • much appreciated. -Dustins, Ltd., had charge of the catering, .and needless to say, gave general, satisfaction.
