Sir William Steward's condition has jjono from bad to worse, and no hopes are now held of his recovery.

The many friends of Mr \V. S. Smith, son of Mr J. Smith, the local station master, will bo pleased to learn that ho has kept his second terms at Auckland., word having been received to this effect yesterday. Mr Smith is a student for the Wcsleyan ministry.

Tho Rev. F. H. Radford, who has been called to the pastorate of the Ingestre Street Baptist Church, arrived •in Wanganui last evening. Mr. and Mrs. Radford received a very warm welcome from tho members of their church, there being an assemblage- of about 100 (including representatives from the Smithfield church^ on the railway station.

'Mr. J. E. Vernon, Rector of tho Palmerston North High School, was granted nine months' leave of absence at Tuesday nights meeting of the High School Board. The leave will be from about the middle of March next, and Mr. Vernon intends visiting the Old Country during the nine months, making tho journey home by way of Vancouver, and the return by way of Suez. 'During Mr. Vernon's absence Mr. F. Foote, at present chief assistant master, will be acting master of the High School.
