ACCUSED FINED £1 AND COSTS

M^ARTOX, October 30
Messrs. H. ]). Bennett and A. Crawford, J.P.s, presided over Taihapo Court to-day, when Alfred Badcock was charged with assaulting a lad named Thomas MeCulior-h at Mataroa. According to tho evidence of complainant, Badcock came xilong when in a, drunken condition and struck him on tho right eye. He had not spoken to accused, nor had ho offered any provocation. Cross-examined hy Mr. Hussey. witness said that lie had met .accused in the morning, and had spoken to him about h?H mother's cow. * His mother threw stones at accused. Ho (witness) threw onn stone.
Tho accused admitted striking McCulloch, who was a cheeky hoy, and had given him provocation pVeviously. Ho struck with the open "hand and not with his closed fist as alleged. Tho Bench imposed a fino of £\, 21 hours being given in which the amount should l>r> paid.
